Quantify Realtime shows you who else is on the issue you have open, tells you when a teammate changes it, and, if your admin turns history on, keeps a quiet record of who opened each issue and when. It runs entirely on Atlassian: nothing about your site leaves Jira.
What you see on an issue
Here now. A small green count next to the Quantify Realtime panel in the right-hand sidebar tells you how many people are on the issue with you. Expand the panel for names. People appear within seconds of arriving and drop off shortly after they leave or switch to another tab.
Recently visited. Below the live list, the people who opened the issue earlier in the activity window, worded softly by default: a moment ago, recently, earlier.
A heads-up when someone changes the issue. If a teammate updates the issue while you have it open, a short message appears: "Sascha just updated this issue." Jira already shows you their change; the message is there so two people don't work over each other. Comments don't trigger it.
Someone arrives. When a teammate opens an issue you are on, you get a brief "Sascha is here" message. Both messages have a Preferences button if you would rather not see them.
Seen by: who opened an issue, and when
When a Jira admin turns on history, two more things appear. In the issue's Activity section, a Seen by tab lists each person who opened the issue with the first and last time they did. And two read-only fields, Seen by and Last seen, become available for queues, boards, filters and automation rules. For example, a filter for requests nobody has opened yet, or a rule that escalates when the assignee has not seen the request in a day.
Jira Service Management customers never appear: they read their requests in the portal, so only agents are ever recorded. Retention is set by your admin; nothing older than that is kept.
Your own preferences
Open your profile menu in Jira and choose Quantify Realtime, or use the Preferences button on any message. You can:
Appear as yourself, the default.
Appear anonymous. Colleagues see that someone is on the issue, not who.
Appear invisible. You are never shown, and nothing about your visits is recorded. You still see others.
Mute the "is here" messages, the "updated this issue" messages, or both. The panel keeps working either way.
For Jira admins
Under Jira settings, Apps, Quantify Realtime, you can set the activity window, choose between soft wording and exact times, turn history on and set how long it is kept, and list any spaces where presence should stay off entirely, such as HR or legal. There is no per-user consent step: presence is on for everyone as soon as the app is installed, and each person controls their own visibility.
The app is licensed per site through the Atlassian Marketplace. On the free plan everything above works with default settings; a licence unlocks the settings page, history and the fields.
Good to know
Presence works in the Jira web app and the desktop app. The Jira mobile apps don't show Forge apps, so people reading on a phone are not counted.
The heads-up about changes is best effort. It is a courtesy, not a lock: Jira never prevents two people from editing the same issue.
